Tis the Season!

Spending holiday fun with my friends is always so wonderful. Sporting our oversized sweaters, booties and scarves - we love the cold weather just for this reason!

Happy holidays from me and my friends, to all of you fashionistas out there! :)

5 Fab trends from the 90s, that we're wearing again...

It's true - most of today's fashion trends are inspired from back in the day... and I mean way back.  So when your mom says "We used to wear those back in my day!", she's not kidding.  Personally, I love it.   Being able to wear a jumper or overalls with a pair of cute floral tights, knee socks and Dr. Martens... makes me feel like a little girl again.  Some trends will never fade, or is it that they just repeat themselves?  Knee socks, jean jackets, overalls... take a peak at some of these fabulous trends of today, that your mom probably has shoved away in her closet!

1. Jean Jackets - The denim decade is back! Vests, blouses, jackets - perfect over just about any outfit.

2. High Waisted Shorts - The best trend to ever take over the fashion world (in my opinion).  High waisted everything, all day everyday... This trend can hang around for a while.

3. Overalls - Could not be happier to see overalls featured all over my favorite shopping sites.  Literally adorable - with tights, cute boots, converse.  Absolutely love this 90's rebound.

4. Knee Socks - This look reminds me of a 90's catholic school girl outfit - throwback!  Love a pair of knee socks with booties and a cute little dress.  It's the perfect accessory and accentuates your legs!

5. Dr. Martens - Think these are those shoes your parents would wear to work because they're "comfortable"? You're right - now they're a top trend.  Doc Martens are perfectly adorable with a skater skirt or sun dress... just bought my own pair from Urban Outfitters, and I'm in love :)
I don't know why, but I actually think this is cute!

The beauty of reliving these 90s trends is that you can most likely find some of these, if not all of these, at your local thrift store.  There's nothing more rewarding than a golden find at a thrift shop.  Vintage fashion, at an affordable price... game on.

7 Essential Jackets For Your Closet This Winter

The Green Jacket
Love the army green jacket... Defiantly in my fall wardrobe
The military green jacket - a staple for every wardrobe.  It's versatile - Wear it over an over sized sweater, a fussy blouse, or a graphic tee with a pair of broken in combat boots.  Or even throw it over a casual dress with a pair of vintage sneakers for that street style look.

The Classic Black Peacoat
http://sweet-milktea.tumblr.com/post/37451605483
The best part about a black peacoat - it's always in style.  Find the perfect shape, size, flair, and fabric to make it your go-to piece for dressing up, going to work, or just strolling around the city.  Keep it classy.

The Bold Raincoat

Perks of a rainy day - getting to wear your cute rain coat!  Bold, bright and fun - it might make that dark and depressing day just a little bit brighter.

The Parka

Girl vs. Cold - you'll stand no chance without a parka.  Marching through the snow in the middle of January might just be a little more bearable with one of these. Warm, cozy, and still totally fashionable.

The Black Leather Jacket

The black leather jacket says "Don't mess with me" - it's edgy and bold, yet basic.  Rock it out with a graphic tee and some black ray bans, or pair it with a frilly sun dress to toughen your look.

The Shopping Coat
Who's That Girl... September 2012
You've gotta look fabulous, to feel fabulous - and what's more fabulous than a shopping day in the city?  Everyone needs a fun, "personality" jacket in their closet for those retail therapy days.

The Fur Coat
oversized fur coat, leather and boots? heels?
Nothing says fashion forward like an over sized fur coat.  Perfect for those crisp snowy days, with your favorite pair of black heeled booties.  Sharp, cozy, and perfectly adorable.

Intern & the City

Summer is quickly coming to a close, and that long sought after internship is almost over.  And to think, it was like just yesterday that you got that sacred acceptance to your dream internship!  Summer internships - if you're in the right industry - are more than jobs and resume enhancements... If done right, it's an episode of your career path, (perhaps just the start!) that has helped mold you in order to succeed in the industry.  It's important to reflect back on the job and take note of what you've gained, how you've networked, and what you have learned you like/dislike about it to help your search for future internships.

This summer, I got the wonderful opportunity to intern in the public relations department at the Prada USA Corp office in NYC!  I distinctly remember sending my resume and how thrilled I was to receive an email response that I got an interview.  It seemed too good to be true when I raced to the city the next day for a spontaneous interview - daydreaming that I was suddenly Carrie Bradshaw in Sex & the City... but I was indeed Giovanna Roselli - just an eager Penn State sophomore aspiring to gain any type of exposure to the fashion industry.

The main thing this whole experience has taught me - never doubt yourself or diminish your skills.  My first thought was: how on earth am I qualified for an internship at one of the top luxury fashion houses in the world?  Honesty - never say never.  I spent endless hours sending my resume and cover letter to every fashion name you can think of, because I believe at the right place and the right time, the perfect job can just fall into the palm of your hands.

Prada has been an awesome experience - I love the people that work in the office, and it is simply everything I imagined and more.  Not quite "Devil Wears Prada" atmosphere as you would think! - because I was always treated with genuine respect and friendly gestures.  Being an intern at Prada has taught me new skills, helped me network with some awesome people, but most importantly the internship has given me enough of a preview to be certain that working in the fashion industry is where I want to be.

The End of an Era.

There’s no doubt we’ve all been prolonging this horrid goodbye since we first arrived back in the fall.  I refused to believe this day would come in a literal blink of an eye.  As I wander from room to room, where we’ve spent endless hours laughing, smiling, screaming, crying, and talking about the quote on quote “weirdest” things you could imagine, the walls are now blank and those rooms are now empty.  It truly breaks my heart knowing this is the era in our lives that we will always look back on and confidently say: that was the best year of my life.

Living on a floor with 42 girls, you can imagine there’s never a dull moment.  I don’t know which part of it I will miss the most, but I will unquestionably miss each and every waking moment.  A classic Monday night at 7 pm where we all congregate in the designated room to avoid doing whatever work we might have on our shoulders… a Thursday or Friday at 6 pm when we all assemble for our routine nap, and 2 hours later when the speakers start blaring, we all run in and out of rooms half dressed trying to put together an outfit… any week night at 12 am deciding it’s a great idea to go to Denny’s for a late night breakfast…  a football Saturday in Happy Valley waking up to get decked out in Penn State attire to “tailgate with best”…. or a beautiful Saturday spring morning waking up to friends gallivanting the floor yelling “let’s play” and soon after frolicking through frat land with not worry in the world.  How about spending a week in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with a few of our closest friends?  It aches me to say that all of this is now in the past...

What can I say, the semesters are too short, and the summers are too long.  Looking back on everything this year, there’s not a thing I would tweak.  It is the most cliché saying of them all, but honestly it couldn’t hold more truth: “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened”, and I do indeed smile everyday because of these wonderful people in my life.  The moments I’ve spent with my sisters in this little bubble we call State College, I will remember for the rest of my life.  These girls have my heart, and they define true friendships.  Each crazy in our own way, making us the most unique group of girls.

I could not be more grateful to be able to have the true college experience, in the happiest place on earth.  When they say college is the best four years of your life, they seem to forget to mention that they are the absolute fastest four years.  To stop and think, four years ago from now, I had no idea I would be blessed with the greatest group of girls, in the greatest place in the world.  Everything has fallen into place in the most perfect way.  I love this place, and I cherish these friendships and these years of pure happiness, more than anything.

  RIP, we killed sophomore year.
