Kudos To My Brother!

While my love is fashion, my brother continues to pursue his field of dreams as he heads out to the Super Bowl this weekend!

The man himself, Robert Roselli, my mentor, my adviser, my fountain of wisdom... my own blood.  My brother, a senior here at Penn State, has recently been selected as one of the two Penn State communications students to earn such a prestigious opportunity (no surprise here)!  In just a few days, Robert will be heading out to New Orleans with NFL Media Relations to assist at Super Bowl XLVII.

Robert has worked for ESPN Radio, the Philadelphia 76ers, Penn State Football, and currently works as a Social Media Intern at Penn State Public Information.  He has developed quite the career path to pursue what he loves.  He is a go-getter for what he wants.  He is confident, and motivated to succeed.

An honor, is simply an understatement.  This opportunity is a dream, passion, and aspiration he has had from a very early age.  Ever since being subliminally introduced to Penn State and Eagles football games on TV with his father, he has developed a true love for sports.  Robert has always been the sports connoisseur within his group of friends and family members.  He holds more knowledge on the subject than anyone I know... And now he is watching his dreams come true right before his eyes.

Wishing my brother a safe trip to New Orleans, and much luck on the exhilarating path ahead of him... I am certain that he will do a job well done, and enjoy every minute of his trip.  His family and friends could not be happier for him - and we will always be his biggest support system.

Good Luck Robert!

Love,
Your little sis

Like Mother, Like Daughter

I've heard it said that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...  This statement could not hold more truth for me and my mother.

Throughout my childhood, my mom has subliminally sparked my love and interest for fashion.  She wouldn't dare to send me off to preschool without an accessory of some sort in my hair.  While she is certainly to blame for my severe shopping addiction, which seems to be escalating with age, she has done a lot more than teach me how to hide the shopping bags from daddy.

My mother has instilled just the right confidence to allow me to successfully pursue a career in fashion.  She has taught me how to express my creativity and stand out from the crowd.  From day 1, I was a trendsetter with my pink fringe cowgirl boots, my jelly sandals, and my favorite jumpers.  As I began growing up, my mom always encouraged me to steer away from the so called middle school "norm" of Abercrombie and Hollister tees and zip ups.  While dabbling with different styles, I remember so distinctly how I took it upon myself to be the first one to sport a pair of Fuschia Pink Uggs in seventh grade.  It was quite the fashion statement, and I soaked it all up.  I loved the idea of being the only one to have them.  And I think that is something that has matured along the years with me.

The little fashionista that my mother subconsciously created, has grown and developed a palate of unique styles, different from the current fads that come and go.  But the biggest component of being able to do this... to be different and daring... is confidence.  I know that this very trait will ultimately help me to succeed in my future endeavors in the fashion industry and I have no one more to thank for that than my mother.

Simply put: Like mother, like daughter.

1 Month Until THON!

The common "trend" around campus today at Penn State is the hype and excitement for THON, as today marks exactly one month until the 46 hour dance marathon which raises money for pediatric cancer.

All those long hours spent on canning trips last semester, the THONvelopes galore, soon enough our dancers will take the spotlight in the Bryce Jordan Center and dance for a cure!  Today, photos and YouTube videos are spreading like fire on social media sites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.  Students are dwelling on last year's success and hoping for an even more remarkable result this year.

Dancers are surely preparing both mentally and physically to take on the challenge of standing for 46 hours.  Last year, the Penn State dance marathon raised over 10 million dollars to help kids with cancer.  The feeling as those numbers are lifted one by one being presented on stage to a room full of warmhearted and proud students, is simply indescribable.  The dancers, as the clock runs its last second, drop to the floor in complete pride, happiness, and fulfillment.  The reward is solely intrinsic, but there is no feeling comparable.

If you have a minute out of your day, visit THON.org and make even a small donation... every penny is one step closer to a cure.

Inspire Tomorrow's Miracles!

Back To The Valley In Style

The holidays are over, and everyone is getting back into that old school routine.  Buying books, registering clickers, reading syllabi, and of course catching up with best friends!  But most of all... everyone is sporting their new clothes and accessories from the holidays.  Oh the thrill of wearing new clothes!  The most popular trends here in Happy Valley today on the first day of classes - combat boots, knee high riding boots, oversized sweaters, funky leggings, and of course the essential parka that is crucial for enduring the brutal cold.  My favorite new item for the season?... My shiny nylon leggings from American Apparel.  Comfy, slimming, super trendy... and they come in all colors!  What's not to love about that - black, for the everyday look, or making it more trendy with burnt olive green!  No better way to start off a new semester than in style!  Happy shopping!

2013: What's In Store For Us This Spring?

Black & White.

Simple, yet sweet.  You would think this Spring would be full of fun pastels and Easter-egg colors, however 2013 is going sleek this season.  While the classic black and white duo seems mundane and "all business", many fashion magazines have deemed it to be one of the most wearable trends this upcoming Spring.  Who's complaining - the chic combo suits anyone, for any occasion.  Designers are putting emphasis on strong black and white looks.  The spotlight seems to be directed towards statement outfits that strike as "easy to pull off at any budget" according to Glamour.com.  Lucky for me I've already got a lot of this combo hanging in my closet!

...Spring is in the air! Cheers, to 2013.

Ringing In The New Year In Style

Another New Year's Eve, another glitzy outfit!  Nothing says Happy New Year like some sparkles and sequins, the classic look for the holiday.  There is almost an implied code of conduct to wear something sparkly on New Year's Eve, but you can simply never go wrong with your favorite little black dress and a statement necklace to give it that certain glitz.  Keeping it Classy, but still sporting that new years flair.  Or even let your statement piece be a pair of sparkly pumps, they may be tortuous, but hey -- pain is beauty.  The shoes can truly change the outfit completely.  Don't get carried away with the glitter though... It is New Year's Eve, but we all know less is more!

A new year means new trends, new styles, new fashion!  But what's always in fashion is spending the New Year being grateful for all of the lovely people that make you happy year to year.  New Year's Day, whether it's lounging in your pj's all day, or continuing the celebration... being with the people you love is a trend that's always in.

Happy New Year!

Xoxo,
Giovanna
